Greetings from Belo Horizonte 7/9/2014

Dear Family,

As you probably heard, a viaduct collapsed here in Belo Horizonte. The viaduct was located here in Pampulha, spanning a major avenue that divides our ward. It was a new, yet to be opened, project that was meant to improve the infrastructure here for the World Cup. The collapse occurred last Thursday, killing two people, and completely blocking the avenue. According to our High Priest Group leader, who works for the civil defense department, the supporting column sank 5 meters, resulting the in the collapse of the roadway. Debris removal efforts have begun this week.

Excitement about the World Cup continued to increase after Brazil advanced to the semi-finals; along with Germany and Argentina (sorry Chris, Guatemala was not represented). As the Brazil game was played here, Tuesday was declared a city holiday. Unfortunately, Brazil was humiliated in the semi-final game.
As we wrote previously, Sunday 9 AM is always the hardest time for us as we wait to see the fruits of our week’s efforts have recent converts, less actives, and investigators come to church. Today, we were blessed to see several people that had made commitments to attend, though we were equally sadden that many did not join us. We are grateful for members who provide fellowship for those who are returning.

Best wishes to all.
Love,
Dad/Cliff
