Greeting from Brasil 8/19/2014

Dear Family,
Greetings again to all of you from Belo Horizonte. We have had a busy week for us with teaching and meetings. We are now spending about half of our time in the Lagoa Ward. It is adjacent to Pampulha Ward, so we can get to the chapel and several neighborhoods by bus. We have not yet tried to get to the farthest reaches of the ward which are outside the city of Belo Horizonte in the area of Riberão das Neves. Fortunately, we are receiving help from the members to make visits as well as offering rides. We still have to meet with the Bishop of the Venda Nova Ward; another adjacent ward with an even greater spread out area.
We have started a new program of teaching new members and less active members about family history using the “My Family” booklet. We are among the first to add this pilot program to our teaching efforts. We find that people are interested and excited to search for their ancestors. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to teach doctrine about the purpose of temples for families to receive the blessing of being sealed together for eternity. It also gives us the opportunity to teach about worthiness and preparation to receive temple blessings.
This past weekend was filled with visits by various church leaders here in Belo Horizonte. Elder Holland (Quorum of the Twelve Apostles) was here for a stake conference in a different part of the city. Saturday night, he gave a fireside that was transmitted to our building for the local members. We were unable to attend as we attended a mission conference in a different part of the city with Elder Maynes (Presidency, 1st Quorum of the Seventy). We spoke on the doctrine of Christ (2 Nephi 31). Sunday, we had stake conference in Riberão das Neves where we heard from Elder Irakaides (Quorum of the Seventy and member of the Brazil area presidency) who spoke on the need to prioritize our choices to be worthy to receive all of the blessings that God has in store for us.
Thant's all for now.
Love,

Dad/Cliff
